SCRANTON, Pa. - Senior forward Kim Wagner (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) scored a goal and an assist to lead 16th-ranked Juniata College to a 3-2 victory over the University of Scranton, in field hockey action Saturday afternoon in Scranton, Pa. Wagner scored at the 12:01 mark of the opening half, tapping in a rebound of Leslie Stern's (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) shot that was stopped by Royal goalie Kristina Goetz. Heather Hassinger (Middleburg, Pa./Middleburg) expanded the Juniata lead to 2-0 with 29 seconds remaining before halftime, with her shot from about 17 yards out on a penalty corner. Wagner was credited an assist on Hassinger's goal. Scranton got on the board barely two minutes into the second half and cut the Juniata lead to one goal, with a goal by Beth McLaughlin off an assist by Diana Rocklein. Paula Price gave the Eagles a 3-1 advantage with 26:55 remaining in the game, scoring from 10 yards out off a pass from Ashleigh Ehnts (Glenside, Pa./Bishop McDevitt). Scranton rallied to score its second goal of the game with 19:06 left in regulation. Margaret Mathewson got control of the ball in the midst of traffic in front of the Juniata goal, and managed to get a shot past Eagle goalie Abby Funk (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg). Funk finished the game with two saves, after coming into the game with 13:52 remaining in the first half. Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) started in the Juniata cage, and was not credited with any saves. Michelle Campbell (Annville, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and Ehnts were each credited with defensive saves for the Eagles. Goetz turned aside five shots in the Royal goal, while allowing all three Juniata goals. Juniata outshot Scranton 11-6, and each team received six penalty corner opportunities. The Eagles (13-2, 4-1 Landmark) return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 16, when they travel to Reading, Pa., to face Alvernia College.
