HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Susquehanna University outscored Juniata College by 13 points in the second half, and went on to post a 73-67 win over the Eagles, in Landmark Conference women's basketball action Saturday night in Huntingdon, Pa. Juniata (3-2, 0-1 Landmark) held a 35-28 lead at the break, and were still up by six, 38-32, with at the 17:38 mark following a trey by Mindy Werner (York, Pa./West York). The Crusaders (4-1, 1-0 Landmark) responded with a three-pointer by Val Houseal, which triggered a 14-0 Crusader run that lasted through the 13:39 mark at left Susquehanna with a 49-41 lead. Susquehanna's Erika Barron accounted for six points during that stretch. The Eagles would cut the margin down to a one-possession game on a couple of occasions, but Susquehanna slowly pulled away over the remainder of the second half. The Crusader lead reached its widest at 10 points, 70-60, with just 44 seconds remaining, following a pair of converted foul shots by Barron. Four Eagles finished in double-digits, led by freshman Jen Hnatuck (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) with 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Claudia McDowell (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) scored 12 points, while Jill Walsh (Johnstown, Pa./Ferndale) and Werner chipped in with 10 points. Ali Meckey (Ebensburg, Pa./Bishop Carroll) dished out four assists in the losing cause. Susquehanna was paced by Barron with 20 points, behind a 10-of-14 effort at the free-throw line. Houseal tallied 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Bri McNallen pulled down 10 boards, and was the only player in the game to crack double-figures in rebounding. Juniata will be on the road next weekend, facing Neumann College on Friday night in Aston, Pa., and battling Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday afternoon in Gwynedd Valley, Pa. -30-
