For Immediate Release Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007 Contact: Pete Lefresne, 814-641-3134 JUNIATA MEN'S HOOPS FALLS TO ST. VINCENT IN DOUBLE-OT LATROBE, Pa. - The Juniata College men's basketball team overcame a 14-point second half deficit and forced the game into overtime and then double-overtime, before falling 90-87 to Saint Vincent College, Wednesday night in Latrobe, Pa. Trailing 47-31 at the 13:34 mark of the second half, the Eagles (3-4, 0-1 Landmark) began the comeback with a 22-6 run to finally knot the game at 53-53 with just 6:25 to play in regulation. Juniata drained four three-pointers during the run, including a pair by David Thompson (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), and tied the game on a pair of foul shots by Kyle Opitz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland). The game remained a one-possession contest for most of the remainder of the second half, with Brian Cannon (Fallston, Md./Fallston) forcing overtime with a jumper with three seconds on the clock that tied the game at 64-64. With the Eagles trailing 77-74 and time winding down in the first overtime period, Cannon again stepped up to force another overtime period, nailing a buzzer-beater three-pointer. In the second overtime period, Thompson drove the length of the floor to cut a Saint Vincent lead to 88-87 with only three seconds on the clock. SVC's Joey Butler was fouled on the ensuing inbounds pass, and converted both free throw attempts to extend the Bearcat lead to 90-87. The Eagles' inbounds pass was intercepted by Ian McCullough to seal the win. Juniata had five players score in double figures, led by Brent Ferko (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) and Thompson with 19 points each. Cannon paced the Eagles on the glass with eight rebounds. Butler had 21 to lead Saint Vincent, with B.J. McGill contributing 20 points to the win. McCullough had 18 points and 12 rebounds for the game's only double-double. The Eagles return to action on Friday, Dec. 7, when they face Manhattanville College in the opening game of the Messiah College Tournament in Grantham, Pa. -30-
