(From Neumann College Press Release) ASTON, Pa. - Junior guard Claudia McDowell (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) scored a game-high 26 points to lead Juniata College to an 80-64 win over Neumann College, in women's basketball action Friday night in Aston, Pa. McDowell shot 9-of-18 from the field, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, pace Juniata (4-2, 0-1 Landmark) past Neumann, snapping the Eagles' two-game losing streak. The Neumann College Knights were led by Brittany Whetts who scored 18 points with seven rebounds. Neumann opened the game with a 6-point run and took a 12-6 lead in the first five-minutes of play behind a 6-point effort from Whetts. The Eagles closed the gap on the Knights and overtook the lead at the 12 minute mark. Ali Meckey (Ebensburg, Pa./Bishop Carroll) and Jill Walsh (Johnstown, Pa./Ferndale) each landed a three-pointer and Jen Hnatuck (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) scored a jumper off an assist from Mindy Werner (York, Pa./West York) to take a 15-14 lead over the Knights. From that point the Knights were unable to contain the Eagles offense which took a 43-21 lead over the Knights with two-minutes left to play in the half. Neumann managed to score six more in the final minutes of the half but went into the locker room down 16, 45-29. The Eagles came out of the break and continued to dominate the Knights as they went up as much as 30 (65-35), midway through the second half. The Knights did not give up as they trimmed the lead down to 13 (75-62) but the Eagles held strong holding on to a 16-point lead and an 80-64 victory. Hnatuck finished with 16 points behind her 7-of-11 shooting effort from the field. Sophomore Kelly Rotan (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Juniata returns to action Saturday afternoon when the complete the two-game Philadelphia road trip with a game against Gwynedd Mercy College. -30-
