Eagle baseball falls to Lebanon Valley 18-17 in 10 innings

FT. PIERCE, Fla. -- Juniata College yielded leads of eight runs and seven runs before eventually falling to Lebanon Valley College 18-17 in 10 innings, in baseball action Sunday afternoon in Ft. Pierce, Fla. The Eagles (1-2) led 8-0 midway through the second inning, and still held a 14-7 lead after four-and-a-half. Juniata had a four-run advantage heading into the bottom of the ninth, but the Flying Dutchman managed to plate four runs to force extra innings. LVC sacrificed the game-winning run across in the bottom of the 10th to take its first lead of the game. Matt Sullivan (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) went 3-for-5 for the Eagles with a single, a double, and a triple. Adam Spadafora (Asbury, N.J./Pennington School) went 4-for-6 with a double in the 10th, but was stranded at the end of the inning. Greg Hoffman (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney), Kevin Small (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) and Dane Ott (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) each had two hits for the Eagles. Sophomore righthander Tyler Clifford (Homer City, Pa./Homer City) made his first start of the season, but freshman reliever Marty Hauck (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) was tagged with the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season. The Eagles continue their Florida slate on Monday night when they face LaRoche College at 7:30 p.m. in Ft. Pierce, Fla. -30-
