HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College students studying fine arts, photography and ceramics will exhibit art in a variety of media -- paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics and computer art -- at the Juniata College Museum of Art from Thursday, March 13 to April 5.

There is an opening reception at the museum from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 13. The reception and continuing exhibition is free and open to the public.

"The students really like to see the student show as a way to demonstrate support for their friends, roommates and colleagues."

Jennifer Streb, assistant professor of art history

The exhibit will feature more than two dozen works made by Juniata students during the 2007-2008 academic year. The works on display were created in art classes supervised by Monika Malewska, assistant professor of art, Alexander McBride, professor of art, and Bethany Benson, assistant professor of art.

"The annual student exhibition is always extremely popular with the campus community," says Jennifer Streb, assistant professor of art history and director of the museum. "The students really like to see the student show as a way to demonstrate support for their friends, roommates and colleagues."

The pieces selected from the show go through several rounds of judging. The fine art faculty selects the best work from their respective classes. The next round of selections is made by Juniata students who are enrolled in the museum studies practicum course, where students learn how to curate art shows and other administrative skills. This year, two Juniata faculty will select three artworks and "best in show" and two "honorable mentions." The faculty judges are David Hutto, assistant professor of English, and Norris Muth, assistant professor of biology.

The museum is located in historic Carnegie Hall at 17th and Moore streets in Huntingdon. Museum hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. For more information, please call the museum at (814) 641-3505, or visit the Juniata College Web site at http://www.juniata.edu/museum.
