Eagle softball falls to Gettysburg, then breezes past Green Mountain College

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Juniata College softball team concluded its 2008 spring break trip with a doubleheader split against Gettysburg College and Green Mountain College, Thursday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Eagles opened the day with a 1-0 loss to the Bullets in eight innings. Starter Alyssa Erb (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) went the distance in the loss, striking out 10 while allowing seven hits, including a single with one out in the eighth that scored the game-winning run. Rachel Nagy (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) had a double for Juniata's lone extra-base hit in the game, while Stacy Nagy (Millerton, Pa./Troy) and Caley McCool (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) each had singles. Juniata completed the doubleheader with a 16-1 win over Green Mountain College in five innings. Pam Mansell (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) notched the win, surrendering just one hit while fanning five GMC batters. The Eagles pounded out their 16 runs on 16 hits, with McCool going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Sarah Eckard (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg), Tara Carl (Duke Center, Pa./Otto-Eldred), Liz Schmitt (Knoxville, Tenn./H. Frank Carey, N.Y.), Rachel Nagy and Stacy Nagy each had a pair of hits, while Rachel Nagy recording four RBI during the contest. Juniata returns to action next Thursday, when it faces Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference matchup. -30-
