Ashcraft, Booth, Buffenmyer, and Opitz named to Landmark All-Academic Team

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Four Juniata College student-athletes have been named to the Landmark Conference's 2007-08 Winter All-Academic Team, which was released Thursday.
Two male and two female student-athletes from each of the eight Landmark Conference institutions were selected for the team, which honors athletes who have excelled athletically and academically. Nominees may compete in any of the Landmark Conference fall sports, and must have at least sophomore standing and a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.
Juniata College selections to the Landmark All-Academic Team are:
Kelly Ashcraft (Bellefonte, Pa./State College) was a standout on the basketball court for the Eagles. She was a first-team All-Landmark selection and led the team in both scoring (13.3) and field goal percentage (.573). Her field-goal percentage led the conference and ranked 13th in Division. She is an environmental science major with a secondary emphasis in secondary education and is a two-time Academic Honor Roll selection.
Matt Booth (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) helped Juniata place third at the Landmark Indoor Track & Field Championships. He earned second-team All-Conference honors by placing second in the long and triple jumps at the meet. He is studying chemistry at Juniata with a secondary emphasis in philosophy.
Kelsey Buffenmyer (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) was a first-team All-Conference performer in indoor track and was selected as the Landmark Field Indoor Field Athlete of the Year after winning the high jump and placing second in the long jump at the conference meet. Buffenmyer is pursuing a degree in human resource management at Juniata.
Kyle Opitz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) was a significant contributor for the Juniata men's basketball team. A first-team All-Conference selection at guard, he averaged 14.3 points per game and ranked second in the conference in both three-point percentage (.450) and free throw percentage (.899). He was a three-time Academic Honor Roll pick and is majoring in management.
Member institutions of the Landmark Conference are: Catholic University of America, Drew University, Goucher College, Juniata College, Moravian College, Susquehanna University, University of Scranton, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
