HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Three Juniata College men's volleyball players were selected to the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Division III All-Star Team, which was released Wednesday afternoon from the league office.

Juniata selections to the squad were junior setter Matt Werle (Meadville, Pa./Meadville), junior middle Dan Powers (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), and sophomore outside hitter Zach Wanner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield).

Werle, who has earned Second team EIVA All-East and First team AVCA All-America honors in the last two weeks, has 1,033 assists this season, and is ranked eighth in the EIVA with 11.35 assists per game. He also ranks second on the team in total digs with 147 (1.62 per game), and is third in total blocks with 70 (0.77 per game). He has 10 matches with at least 50 assists, including a season-high 60 assists in a 3-1 win over Mercyhurst College. Werle recorded three matches with double-digit dig totals, with a high of 13 digs in a victory over Springfield College. He also had 11 digs against both Stevens and NJIT.

Powers is third on the team in total kills with 212, averaging 2.33 per game. He is fourth in the EIVA in hitting with a .432 attack percentage, with just 47 attack errors on 382 swings. He had 11 matches with 10-or-more kills, including a season-high 15 kills in wins over NJIT and East Stroudsburg. Powers led the team in both service aces (26) and total blocks (83). He recorded a high of seven blocks in a 3-1 win over Princeton. Powers was a Second team selection to the AVCA All-America squad.

Wanner recorded 251 kills during 2008, averaging 3.30 per game with a .177 attack percentage. He logged 12 games with double-digit kill totals, including four with at least 20 kills; his season high of 23 kills came in this past Saturday against UC-Santa Cruz in the consolation match of the 2008 Molten Invitational. Wanner also recorded 83 digs (1.09 per game) with 33 total blocks (0.43 per game).

Fourth-ranked Juniata is currently 10-14, 6-6 in the EIVA's Tait Division, and will host #5 New York University on Wednesday, April 16, in a EIVA Tournament First Round match.
