HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College outhit Mount Aloysius College 17-6 over two games on its way to a doubleheader sweep of the Mounties, in softball action on Monday afternoon at Weis Field in Huntingdon, Pa. Juniata won the first game by a 5-2 score, then completed the sweep with a 5-1 victory in game two. Mount Aloysius (13-15) took an early lead in the first inning of game one, scoring two runs on Jena Isenberg's two-out blast over the left-center field fence. Melissa Moffat (Oceanside, Calif./Oceanside) pulled Juniata to within one run with a solo shot in the bottom of the third inning, and the Eagles tied the game in the fourth when Stacy Nagy (Millerton, Pa./Troy) scored on Liz Schmitt's (Knoxville, Tenn./H. Frank Carey, N.Y.) sacrifice fly to right field. Juniata (18-15) pulled ahead with three runs in the fifth, including two runs on back-to-back RBI doubles by Rachel Nagy (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and Stacy Nagy. Sophomore Alyssa Erb (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) struck out nine Mount Aloysius batters on her way to the complete game victory, improving her record to 12-9. MAC starter Jess Walters also pitched a complete game, allowing five earned runs on seven hits with one walk. The Eagles used another three-run uprising, this time in the fourth inning, to defeat the Mounties in game two of the doubleheader. Rachel Nagy opened the frame with a single to center field, eventually scoring on an RBI single by Moffat. Jackie Morley (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) got aboard with a single and Kaleigh Driscoll (Fallston, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) reached on a walk; both scored later in the frame on a two-out, two-run double to left field by Sarah Eckard (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg). Juniata tacked on one run in the fifth when Caley McCool (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) plated Stacy Nagy with her sac fly to center field. Eagle starter Pam Mansell (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) struck out three and scattered three hits on her way to the victory, boosting her mark to 5-6. Mansell was lifted in the fifth inning in favor of Erb, who struck out four in three innings of relief work on her way to earning her second save of the season. Juniata will face Penn State-Altoona on Thursday, April 24, at 3:00 p.m. in Altoona, Pa. -30-
