HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College field hockey squad will open its 2008 campaign ranked 14th in the nation, according to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's (NFHCA) Division III preseason poll which was released Tuesday.

The Eagles finished the 2007 season with a final ranking of 13th in the NFHCA Division III poll.

Juniata was the only Landmark Conference school in the poll, and one of only three Pennsylvania schools to earn a ranking. The Eagles were picked to finish second in the Landmark Conference preseason poll, which was released last week.

Bowdoin College sits atop the Division III rankings with 414 points, including 18 first-place votes. Salisbury University is second with 359 points and three first-place votes. The College of New Jersey is third with 332 points, followed by Ursinus College (329 points) in fourth and Lebanon Valley College (316 points) in fifth place.

Rounding out the poll were: Middlebury (308), Messiah (303), Cortland State (268), Rowan (246), Christopher Newport (226), Johns Hopkins (223), William Smith (221), Springfield (153), Juniata (127), Skidmore (103), Tufts (101), Lynchburg (96), St. Lawrence (67), Williams (56), and Montclair State (32).
