ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Juniata College's early lead didn't stand up as the Eagle field hockey squad dropped a 3-2 decision to Oneonta State, Saturday afternoon in Oneonta, N.Y. The Eagles took the initial lead of the game as junior Erin Smith (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) scored an unassisted goal in the eighth minute off a rebounded defensive save to put Juniata (1-4, 0-0 Landmark) up by one. Oneonta State tied it up in the 20th minute of play when freshman Jacqueline Camp took a pass from senior Somer Shuffield and converted it for a goal to knot the game at 1-1. Oneonta took the lead with 9:58 remaining in the opening half on Red Dragon junior Kathryn Kubaryk's goal, and two minutes later Oneonta sophomore Ainsley Stoll padded the Red Dragons' lead after finishing a breakaway play by Shuffield. Juniata cut the deficit in half in the 62nd minute when Smith scored her second goal of the day on a rebound, reducing the Red Dragon lead to 3-2. Juniata was awarded a penalty corner as time expired, however the Eagles were unable to convert the opportunity and Oneonta held on for the victory.
