HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Women's volleyball middle hitter Erin Albert (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) and football defensive back and return specialist Brandon Spayd (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) have been named Juniata College's Athletes of the Week, for the week ending September 14, 2008.

Albert led the Eagles to three wins, including two over top-15 teams, to win the 2008 Teri Clemens Invitational, hosted last Friday and Saturday by Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. She tallied 33 kills over the three games, averaging a team-high 3.00 kills per set, with four service aces, eight digs and 10 total blocks with just one blocking error. She had a high of 13 kills in a 3-1 win over Bethel University (Minn.), with 11 kills on 18 swings against 13th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater. Albert logged nine kills with five total blocks in a dramatic 3-2 win over second-ranked Washington (Mo.).

Women's volleyball will be opening conference play this weekend when it faces Goucher College, Susquehanna, and Catholic in the first of two Landmark Conference round-robin weekends, which will be hosted Saturday and Sunday by Susquehanna University.

For the second week in a row, Spayd turned in some spectacular performances on kickoff return duty for the Eagles, in their 10-3 loss at Susquehanna. Spayd's best effort of the day was a 56-yard kickoff return in the first quarter, bringing the ball out from the Juniata eight-yard line all the way to the Susquehanna 36, and setting up Juniata's only score of the game - a 24-yard field goal by Dan Zentz.

Juniata opens Centennial Conference play this Saturday, when the Eagles travel to Collegeville, Pa., to face Ursinus College .
