Two late goals carry Dickinson past Juniata men's soccer
(Posted October 8, 2008)
CARLISLE, Pa. - Dickinson College scored twice in the final 20 minutes on its way to a 2-1 win over Juniata College, in men's soccer action on Wednesday night in Carlisle, Pa.
Juniata (5-6-1) took a lead late in the first half, when Fred McNeal (Towanda, Pa./Troy) scored an unassisted goal in the 41st minute. McNeal's shot was one of only three shots taken by the Eagles in the first half, who went into break up 1-0 over the Red Devils.
Dickinson (9-3-0) outshot Juniata 14-1 in the second half alone, finally tying the game at 1-1 on Dale Rodman's goal in the 72nd minute. Rodman then assisted on the game-winning goal, a blast by Zach Pritchard into the right side of the goal with just 1:34 remaining in regulation.
The Red Devils finished the game with 23 shots to Juniata's four, and had a 15-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Juniata keeper Ted Sonneborn (Syracuse, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) recorded 11 saves in the Eagle goal, while Dickinson's Rodrigo Barboza recorded three saves.
"Ted played really well tonight, but the two goals they scored were phenomenal," said Juniata head coach Dan Dubois. "Our guys played great - we just got beat by a better team tonight. But we can't hang our heads about it; we just have to go out and take care of business on Saturday against Drew."
The Eagles travel to Madison, N.J., this Saturday to face Drew University in a Landmark Conference matchup.
