Men finish 10th, women 14th, at Gettysburg Invitational

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Junior Sam Williams (Roaring Spring, Pa./Central) set a new 8 km personal best to lead Juniata College men's cross country to a 10th place finish out of 19 teams at the Gettysburg College Invitational, Saturday morning in Gettysburg, Pa.
Williams posted a time of 26:22.38, finishing 16th overall out of 270 runners on the Gettysburg course that will be the site of the 2008 Centennial Conference championship. Williams was one of eight Juniata men's runners who set new personal record times.
Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) finished 33rd overall with a PR time of 26:51.82, while Matt Bailey was 56th in a time of 27:12.75. Freshman Nik Klena (Franklin, Pa./Oil City) was 74th overall with a time of 27:28.84, also a new personal record. Kenny Goodfellow (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and Tripp Rudolph (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) were the only other Juniata runners to finish among the top 100; Goodfellow was 99th with a PR time of 27:53.61, while Rudolph was 100th in a PR time of 27:55.09.
In the women's race, Juniata finished 14th out of 21 teams, led by Laura Rupprecht (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) in 27th place out of 233 runners with time of 23:58.80.
Meghan Jones (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) was 72nd overall with a time of 24:58.83, and led a pack of Juniata runners. Aubrey Cyphert (North East, Pa./Seneca) was 75th in 25:05.37, followed by Megan McQuillan (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) in 77th position with a time of 25:11.25. Freshman Danielle Brooks (Williamsburg, Pa./Williamsburg) was 84th with a PR time of 25:18.22.
Both Juniata squads will have next weekend off to prepare to the 2008 Landmark Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Fort Roberdeau Park outside of Altoona, Pa.
