ALTOONA, Pa. - Both the Juniata College men's and women's cross country teams finished second out of eight teams at the 2008 Landmark Conference Cross Country Championships, held Saturday at the Fort Roberdeau Historic Site outside of Altoona, Pa.

The men's squad placed four runners among the top ten, finishing with 49 points. Susquehanna University won the championship with 41 points, with Moravian College finished third with 87 points. Trailing the top three were Scranton (91 pts.), U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (124 pts.), Catholic (159 pts.), Goucher College (188 pts.) and Drew University (255 pts.).

Sam Williams (Roaring Spring, Pa./Central) was third overall in a time of 27:11.7, with freshman Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) placing fifth in a time of 27:35.5. Parker was the top freshman finisher in the event, and earned Landmark Rookie of the Year honors. Both Williams and Parker were First team All-Landmark Conference honorees by virtue of their finish.

Matt Bailey (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) and Nik Klena (Franklin, Pa./Oil City) earned Second team All-Landmark honors; Bailey was 10th in a time of 27:44.5, while Klena was 11th in a time of 27:51.1.

The women's team tallied 61 points, trailing the championship squad from Susquehanna who finished with 40 points. Scranton was third (72 pts.), followed by Catholic (79 pts.), Moravian (88 pts.), Drew (189 pts.), and Goucher and USMMA tied for seventh with 213 pts.

Laura Rupprecht (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) was the top Juniata runner, finishing fourth in a time of 24:19.2 on her way to First team All-Landmark honors. Aubrey Cyphert (North East, Pa./Seneca) also earned First team All-Landmark accolades, completing the challenging 6 km course in a time of 24:23.7.

Juniata will next compete at the NCAA Mideast Regional, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, Pa.
