HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Senior Amber Thomas (Ephrata, Pa./Conestoga Valley) from women's volleyball and Kara Buda (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley) from field hockey have been honored as Landmark Conference players of the week, for the week ending November 2, 2008.

Buda was named the Landmark Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for her three-point performance in Juniata's season-ending win over Goucher College. She assisted on what proved to be the game-winning goal and added a goal of her own later in the contest, leading the Eagles to a 6-0 win over the Gophers.

The win allowed Juniata (7-12, 3-3 Landmark) to secure the third seed for this week's Landmark Conference Tournament semifinals. Juniata will face second-seeded Susquehanna University at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Thomas earned Landmark Volleyball Player of the Week honors for her performance over four matches last week. She recorded 49 kills on 116 swings for a .362 attack percentage, while leading Juniata to a 3-1 record. She had a high of 23 kills against only two errors in a 3-2 win over Birmingham-Southern College, a Division I program in its first year of transition to Division III, and tallied 13 kills against NAIA-member Lee University (Tenn.). Thomas also had 18 digs last week (1.29/set) with nine total blocks (0.64/set).

Top-seeded Juniata (29-4, 6-0 Landmark) has a bye for the first round of the Landmark Conference Tournament, and will host the semifinals and finals on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center in Huntingdon, Pa.
