HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College men's tennis squad was picked to finish fifth among the league's eight schools, in preseason voting of the league's head coaches and sports information directors which was released Friday.

Juniata, which returns Second team All-Landmark Conference honoree Ryan Navarro (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle), received 39 points in the poll.

Drew University was a near-unanimous pick to win the conference crown in 2009 with 74 points, followed by the University of Scranton (60 pts.) and Moravian College (54 pts.). Catholic University rounded out the top half of the poll with 48 points.

Trailing the Eagles were Susquehanna University (27 pts.), Goucher College (22 pts.), and the United States Merchant Marine Academy (12 pts.).

Juniata posted a 6-12 overall record in 2007-08, 3-4 in the Landmark Conference. The Eagles return all their key contributors from last season, led by senior Jonathan Skoner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) who was 8-9 in singles play last season, including a 7-7 mark at #2 singles. Senior Aaron Rhodes (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) posted a 7-7 overall singles mark with a 7-4 ledger at #5 singles. Navarro had a 6-5 overall record, all at #3 singles, while junior Jarrad Silver (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) went 6-12 over the season with a 4-11 mark at #1 singles.

The Eagles went 3-1 during their fall slate, with wins over Lebanon Valley (8-1), Penn State-Harrisburg (6-3), and Frostburg State (6-3). Juniata begins spring competition on Monday, Mar. 9, against Trine University, during the team's spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C.
