HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Juniata College women's tennis team had plenty of close matches but just not enough wins as Juniata fell to Bridgewater College, 6-3, Thursday afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Juniata pairing of Maggie Wolenter (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) and Lauren Perow (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) posted the lone Eagle victory in doubles play, winning their no. 2 doubles match against Jessica Hill and Marieke Johnson, 8-6. Katie Steinour (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and Laura Gregory (Morrisonville, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) almost notched a win at no. 3 doubles, before they dropped an 8-6 decision to Bridgewater's Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer.
Juniata won singles matches at the no. 5 and no. 6 slots. Steinour logged a 6-3, 6-2 win over Morgan McGhee, while Ariel Otruba (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) posted a 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 victory over McConaughy.
Perow dropped a hard-fought match at no. 4 singles, falling 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) to Johnson.
The loss evens Juniata's record at 4-4, with Landmark Conference play opening up on March 21 against the University of Scranton.
