HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College Sinfonia will perform one of the most well-known compositions of the Baroque era, "The Brandenburg Concerto No. 3," by Johann Sebastian Bach, as part of its fall concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 19, in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts on the Juniata campus.

Tickets for the concert are $5 for adults and free for children under age 18 and for Juniata students with current identification. The concert will be conducted by Debbie Trudeau, lecturer in music at Juniata.

The concert will open with the third Brandenburg concerto, featuring the full Juniata Sinfonia playing the familiar Allegro, or first movement.

After the Bach selection, the college's cello choir will perform "May Song" and "Babylon." The cello choir is led by Evelyn Bookhammer, a lecturer in music at Juniata.

The evening of music will remain small-scale for the performance of "String Quartet No. 1," by J.C. de Arriaga, played by the Juniata Honors String Quartet. The members of the quartet are Anessa Kwon, a senior from Enola, Pa.; James Rixey, a freshman from Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Matt Lambton, a freshman from Ridgefield, Conn.; and Erin Burt, a junior from Spring, Texas.

The Sinfonia will return to play "Concerto Grosso Op. 6, No. 4" by Georg F. Handel. Violinists Kwon and Rixey will be featured in the next selection, "Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor," by J.S. Bach.

The concert will continue with two compositions, "Lord of the Dance" by Ronan Hardiman, featuring solos by Kwon and Matthew Scott, a sophomore from Sunderland, Mass., and "Adagio for Strings," by Samuel Barber. "Adagio for Strings" is renowned for its use in film scores, most notably in "Platoon."
