Three Juniata track and field athletes make field for NCAA Outdoor Championships

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Three Juniata College track and field athletes have qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which begin competition on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.
Senior Kyle Mazur (Ogdensburg, N.J./Morris Catholic) was the lone automatic qualifier among the three Eagles to earn a berth in the meet, and will compete in the javelin. He is seeded second with his qualifying throw of 64.80m (212-7), which he made during the Penn State Open on May 9.
Joining Mazur in the javelin competition will be freshman Dustin Drake (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union), who is seeded 16th with a mark of 60.82m (199-6), also set during the Penn State Open.
Senior Kelsey Buffenmyer (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) will be competition in the high jump and long jump competition, where she is seeded 16th in both events. Buffenmyer's best mark in the long jump was 5.69m (18-8), set at the Lock Haven Qualifier on May 2. She is tied with six other competitors at 1.66m (5-5 ¼) in the high jump, with that qualifying mark set on May 9 at the Penn State Open.
Juniata's three track and field performers are among 12 from Landmark Conference institutions who will be competing in the NCAA outdoor meet.
