Amrod's Hat Trick Leads Eagles Past Presidents, 3-1
(Posted September 12, 2009)
HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Sophomore forward Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) scored all three goals for Juniata College's Field Hockey squad to lead them to a 3-1 victory over Washington and Jefferson College, on Saturday afternoon on Winton Hill Field.
Juniata (3-2) used a relentless offensive attack, compiling 29 shots and 22 penalty corners in the game against only two shots and one corner for the Presidents.
But, at 18:49 mark of the first half, one of Washington and Jefferson's shots found the back of the cage to put the Presidents ahead. The goal was unassisted and recorded by junior Julianne Zackey.
The Presidents' lead lasted less than ten minutes before Amrod notched her first goal of the game after a scrum in front of the cage ended in the Eagles favor. The score heading into halftime was tied at 1-1.
The second half belonged to the Eagles, as they piled on 11 shots and eight penalty corners and broke the tie score with Amrod's second goal off a corner with 11:30 left to go in the game. Freshman midfielder Jill McNeish (Greensburg, Pa./ Hempfield Area) was credited with the assist, her first of the season.
The Eagles' third goal came off a fast break by junior Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./ East Pennsboro), who centered the ball right to the stick of Amrod who put it past the goalkeeper to seal the victory for Juniata with just over eight minutes remaining. The assist was Price's first of the season.
Amrod leads the team in goals with six and points with 13. Price has recorded three goals and one assist on the season.
Senior goalie Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./ Haddon Heights) was credited the win for the Eagles without recording a save in 35 minutes of action. Junior Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./ Lampeter-Strasburg) stopped one shot in the first half. Presidents' goalkeeper Shelby Colyer made 15 saves in 70 minutes of game time.
The Eagles return to action on Sept. 17 when they travel to York College in a night contest starting at 5 p.m.
