HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Last week, the field hockey team extended its winning streak to seven straight games after beating Frostburg State University, 6-0, and Moravian College, 5-0. Dating back to Sept. 23, the Eagles have outscored their opponents 18-1, spanning four games.

That effort caught the eyes of the voters in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Top 20 Poll. Juniata received 129 points in this week's poll, good enough for no. 18. It is the first time the team has been ranked since they were no. 14 on the 2008 preseason poll.

Messiah College (9-0) is ranked first by the NFHCA and gained 47 first place votes. They are followed by Salisbury University (10-1), Tufts University (7-0), Ursinus College (9-2), and SUNY Cortland (11-0) to round out the top five.

Juniata's two losses came against previously ranked opponents. The Eagles fell to then no. 4 Messiah to open the season, and dropped a 1-0 decision to then ranked no. 17 Elizabethtown College a week later.

The team returns to the field Wednesday, Oct. 7, when it takes on Susquehanna University on Winton Hill Field at 4 p.m.
