Field Hockey Uses Comeback, Slays Red Dragons, 4-3

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Preparing for its Landmark Conference Semifinal bout next week, the Juniata College field hockey team took down the State University of New York at Oneonta, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon. The game was played on Charlotte E. Smith Field on the campus of Lock Haven University.
The game featured five goals in the first half, three by the Red Dragons and two by the Eagles. Down 3-2 at the half, Juniata (15-3, 6-0 Landmark) needed only 19 seconds to knot the game at 3-3. From there, the Eagles tacked on another to take the lead, and ultimately the game.
Junior Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) scored twice to lead the Eagles in the come from behind victory. She started off the scoring exactly three minutes into the contest off a centering feed from freshman Caroline Phillips (Wilmington, Del./Concord).
The next two goals were scored by the Red Dragons to gain control of the contest. The first goal was at the 7:10 mark, as Andrea Van Dyke controlled the ball in front of the goalmouth and scored to tie the game. Only one minute, 45 seconds later, Oneonta State (8-9, 4-2 SUNYAC) struck again as Alysia Basher corralled a rebound and tucked it home for the 2-1 lead.
The Eagles struck back with a goal in the 17th minute by sophomore Meghan McGlone (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh). She tipped home a shot by sophomore Kim Amrod (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) past the keeper to lock the score at 2-2.
But, Basher responded with her second goal of the game less than two minutes later off a pass by Rachel Taylor. The five goals were scored in the first 18:15 of the match.
Amrod's quick second half goal came from sophomore Kara Buda (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley), tying the game at three a piece.
With 10:40 remaining on the scoreboard, the Eagles went ahead for good as Price put home her second goal of the game on a tip, off a shot by McGlone. McGlone received a pass off a penalty corner before ripping a shot on goal.
Senior Denalyn Spratt played all 70 minutes in goal for Juniata, tallying five saves. Leslie Dauphinais played the entire game for the Red Dragons, recording seven saves.
The Eagles outshot Oneonta State, 23-13, but lost the battle of penalty corners, 9-7.
Juniata finished its regular season as the top seed in the Landmark and will host Drew University in the conference semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 3:30 p.m. The other semifinal is between Catholic University and Susquehanna University. Each winner will battle for the Landmark Championship on Saturday, Nov. 7.
The Eagles defeated Drew, 2-1, earlier in the regular season. That game was played at Drew.
