The evening of music will include a performance by Gregg Ralston, a 1977 Juniata College graduate, who is returning to his alma mater to perform two solo pieces with the orchestra. He will also perform with a special faculty string quartet.

Ralston has established himself as a professional solo violinist. After graduating from Juniata with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and music theory, he has served as concertmaster of the Immaculata Symphony and the Delaware County Symphony chamber orchestra. Currently, he routinely participates in playing sessions with a local group of chamber music enthusiasts.

The concert opens as the orchestra performs a romantic piece by 19th century Czech composer, Antonin Dvorak, "Slavonic Dance Op. 46 No. 8."

A French composer's music is the focus of the ensemble's next concert segment. "Cello Concerto" by Camille Saint-Saens, will feature sophomore Katerina Korch, of Shillington, Pa., on cello, winner of the 2009-2010 Instrumental Music Concerto competition.

A faculty string quartet comprised of Debbie Trudeau, lecturer in music, Ofir Tomer, lecturer in music, and Evelyn Bookhammer, lecturer in music, with Gregg Ralston as a guest, will perform "Mendelssohn's String Quartet Op. 44 No. 1."
Adding to the concert program's local flavor is John Bukowski, professor and chair of the mathematics at Juniata, who will perform Bach's "Italian Concerto" on Juniata's recently refurbished harpsichord.

The classical repertoire of music at the concert will continue with guest soloist, Ralston, joining the orchestra on violin performing a piece from Beethoven's "Romance Op. 40," one of the two violin romances written by the famous German composer. Ralston will also play the violin for Jules Massenet's famous "Meditation from Thais."

Finally, the Bergenblick Consort, featuring Wilfred Norris, professor emeritus of physics, Ann Hettmansperger, a community member, Ann Andersen, a community member, and Erin Burt, a sophomore from Spring, Texas, playing cello performing the "Trio Sonata" by Johann Joaquin Quantz for two alto recorders and harpsichord and cello.
