Three Players Earn Conference Player of the Week Honors

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Three Juniata College student-athletes were named as the Landmark Conference Player of the Week for their respective sport, for the week ending Saturday, Nov. 7. After winning the conference championship in field hockey and women's volleyball, senior goalkeeper Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights), sophomore forward Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield), and senior opposite Paige Johnston (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) were named as players of the week.
The field hockey team won its third straight conference championship with a 1-0 victory over Susquehanna University on Saturday. They defeated Drew University in the semifinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 4, by a score of 4-1.
Amrod tallied two assists and a game-winning goal throughout the week. She assisted two goals in the semifinal before scoring the game-winner in the championship with 5:47 left to play in the first half. She has a team high 17 goals on the season and has chipped in with nine assists for a conference best 43 points.
Spratt lowered her goals against average to a conference best .78, while not allowing a goal in 124 minutes of action this week. She played the first 54 minutes versus Drew, stopping one shot. She tallied her second shutout of the season in the championship match playing all 70 minutes, not having to make a save.
Johnston helped her volleyball team win its 29th straight conference championship, with a semifinal win over Goucher College and a finals victory over Susquehanna. Both matches were 3-0. Over the two matches, Johnston hit at a .415 clip, totaling 19 kills on 41 attempts. She also had 16 digs, three service aces, two total blocks and two assists.
The field hockey team plays its NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship first round game at Lynchburg College on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 5 p.m. Volleyball hosts an NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship regional, starting on Thursday, Nov. 12.
