HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College field hockey team is coming off its third consecutive Landmark Conference championship and now the team has more reason to celebrate. The coaches selected six Eagles to the 2009 All-Conference Team, as well as the league's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, and the Coaching Staff of the year.

Juniors Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Sam Smith (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg), as well as sophomores Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Meghan McGlone (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) were selected to the first team.

Selected to the second team were seniors Melissa Gorman (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) and Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights).

Price, who was named to the 2007 and 2008 All-Conference second team as well as being the 2007 Rookie of the Year recipient, has been named as the 2009 Offensive Player of the Year.

McGlone's effort on the defensive side of the ball has been awarded as the coaches have named her the Defensive Player of the Year. Last season, she was a first team representative as well as the Rookie of the Year.

Head coach Caroline Gillich and assistant coach Kim Wagner have been honored as the Coaching Staff award winners. Gillich helped lead the team to a perfect 6-0 regular season Landmark Conference record as well as a 17-3 overall showing.

Before the postseason started, Price led the Eagles with 17 goals and six assists for 40 points. Right behind her in the conference points lead was Amrod who tallied 16 goals and seven assists. Juniata's two forwards were one-two in conference statistics for the majority of the regular season.

Smith was a stronghold in the midfield, maneuvering the ball from her backfield to her goal scorers. She posted two goals on the year. Smith was also key defender for a team that only allowed 21 goals.

McGlone was the team's point man on penalty corners, scoring most of her seven points from that position. She was selected First Team All-Conference for her defense, denying 10 balls from entering the cage on defensive saves.

A part of the second team, Gorman started all 20 games as a back and was a fixture on defense. She helped the offense with two assists on the season, but more importantly had two defensive saves.

Goalkeeper Spratt had a conference best .78 goals against average while playing more than 1,083 minutes. She stopped 45 shots while going 15-1 with two shutouts in 19 games played.
