HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Freshman Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) set a new school record in the 55m hurdles for the second week in a row, while TJ Breya (McClure, Pa./East Juniata) and Ryan Baird (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) recorded a pair of second place finishes for the men to highlight Juniata College results at the Haverford College Seamus McElligott Invitational, held Saturday at the Alumni Field House.
Shaffer finished fourth in the 55m hurdles, but her time of 8.89 seconds eclipsed her previous record of 8.99 second set last weekend at the Susquehanna University Orange & Maroon Invitational.
Shaffer won the high jump competition after clearing the bar at 4-11.75, matching her best effort of a week ago at Susquehanna for the third-best high jump mark by a Juniata woman. She also posted a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 33-6, the second-best triple jump performance in Juniata history.
Laura Rupprecht (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) was 10th in the 800m run with a time of 2:33.51, while Megan McQuillan (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) was 12th in the mile run (5:31.99). Skylar Kulbacki (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) was 15th in the long jump with a jump of 14-5.25.
On the men's side, Breya was second in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.23 seconds, good enough to crack the top five all-time indoor performance rankings for the Juniata men. Vinny Smith (Butler, Pa./Mars) was right behind Breya in third place with a mark of 8.52 seconds.
Breya also finished seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 23.59 seconds, third-fastest time in Juniata history.
Baird also notched a second place finish for Juniata with a mark of 14-0 in the pole vault, third-best indoor pole vault mark among Juniata all-time indoor performers.
Juniata will be idle next weekend, before returning to competition on Saturday, Feb. 13, at both the Bucknell Winter Classic and the Susquehanna Invitational.
