HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College track and field teams competed as split squads this weekend, with most of the team heading to Selinsgrove, Pa., for the Susquehanna University Invitational, while others headed up the road to Lewisburg, Pa., for the Bucknell Winter Classic.

Among Juniata's entries in the Susquehanna Invitational, thrower Jeremy Boback (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) had the day's top performance with a third place finish in the 35 lb. weight throw with a toss of 42-2.25. Ryan Johnson (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) was eighth in the event at 39-5.25.

Nicholas Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) and Stephanie Varner (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) each posted a fifth-place finish at the Susquehanna meet. Bauer was fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 39-4, while Varner was fifth in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 8-11.75. Bauer also checked in at 16th in the preliminaries of the 55m dash with a time of 7.02 seconds, and was eighth in the long jump with a mark of 20-2.25.

Skylar Kulbacki (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) was ninth in the women's triple jump with a jump of 31-10.75, while Nik Klena (Franklin, Pa./Oil City) finished just outside the top 10 in the mile run, placing 12th with a time of 4:36.06.

At the Bucknell Winter Classic, Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) was eighth in the finals of the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.52 seconds, after running a 9.43 with a second place finish in her heat. Laura Rupprecht (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) won her section of the mile run with a time of 5:22.84, and finished ninth overall. She came back to win her section of the 800m run with a time of 2:29.69, on her way to a 16th place finish overall.

The Juniata team of Rupprecht, Megan McQuillan (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough), Courtney DeGemmis (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton), and Shaffer was sixth in its section of the 4 x 400m relay, posting a time of 4:28.05.

Matt Bailey (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) took first in his section of the 5000m run with a time of 15:32.20, and was third among all runners in the event.

In the field events at Bucknell, Shaffer cleared a final height of 5-1 in the high jump, while Ryan Baird (North Huntindon, Pa./Norwin) cleared the bar at 14-0 in the pole vault.

Both the men's and women's teams will be at the Susquehanna Open next Friday, Feb. 19, in the final tune-up before the Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Susquehanna.
