HUNTINGDON, Pa. - A week before the Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, Juniata College freshman Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa. / Slippery Rock) put together several strong efforts at the Susquehanna Indoor Open, earning the Women's Field Athlete of the Week, released Monday.

Shaffer competed in the high jump, triple jump and the 55-meter hurdles, placing in the top ten in each event. She continued to climb to the top of the record books among the all-time greats in Juniata track and field history, posting two personal best marks at the meet.

She picked up a first place finish in the high jump, a second place finished in the 55-meter hurdles, and a tenth place finish in the triple jump.

Shaffer won the high jump as she improved her season best mark by an inch to clear the bar at 1.57 meters (5' 2"). That mark was also the best clearance of any high jumper in the Landmark Conference this season.

She improved her own school record in the 55-meter hurdles event by crossing the finish line in a time of 8.68 seconds, 0.17 faster than her previous best. That time was also a Landmark Conference best for the indoor season.

To complete her day at the non-scored meet, Shaffer placed tenth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.01 meters (32' 10.25").

This is the second week this season that she has been awarded this honor. She was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 25.

The men and women's track team will travel back to Susquehanna University on Saturday, Feb. 27, to compete in the 2010 Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
