SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Four first place finishers, two NCAA provisional marks and a new Juniata College record all came out on day one of the 2010 Landmark Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Four individuals on the men's side of things, two of which were Juniata College athletes, broke the NCAA provisional mark of 57.80 meters in the javelin throw.

Dustin Drake (Mt. Union, Pa./Mt. Union) came in third place overall in the javelin throw, setting a provisional mark with a throw of 58.88 meters. Ryan Johnson (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) was right behind Drake in fourth place with a toss of 58.22 meters, also besting the NCAA provisional mark.

Overall, both teams had four first place winners, with a combination of field events and long distance track events.

Starting the winning off was Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) in the eighth event overall. The freshman bested a field of 16 other throwers, throwing the discus 38.81 meters. His throw was .98 meters better than the second place toss.

Directly following Clapper was Kristyn Ginter (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) who placed first in the female javelin toss. Although she missed the NCAA provisional mark by only .18 meters, her throw of 38.82 meters was better than nin other competitors.

Continuing with the field events, Nicholas Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) leaped his way to a first place finish with a jump of 6.81 meters in the long jump.

To finish the day, and the first place finishers for the Eagles, Matt Bailey (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) continued his excellent season and Juniata career as his finished the 10,000-meter run in a time of 33:14.62. That time was a full 13 seconds faster than the second place finisher.

Although he did not come in first, Nik Klena (Franklin, Pa./Oil City) set a Juniata College record by nearly posting a sub four-minute 1,500 meter run time. His time of 4:00.01 is the best time by an Eagle in program history and it was good enough for a third place finish in the event.

Other top five finishers for Juniata on the first day of the two-day event were Lauren Taylor (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee), Ryan Baird (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin), Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township), and Sarah Trescher (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey).

Taylor finished fifth in the pole vault with a jump of 3.19 meters, while Baird also came in fifth in the pole vault on the men's side with a jump of 4.41 meters.

Morgan and Trescher came in third and fifth place, respectively, in the women's 10,000-meter run. Morgan finished in 44:24.00 while Trescher ended in a time of 44:59.10.

Day two of the Championships will conclude on Sunday, with all of the sprinting events still to be run, including the completion of the rest of the distance and field events.
