HUNTINGDON, Pa. - After winning her second Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Inc. (PIAA) AAA State Championship at Lower Dauphin High School in the fall, Liz Slimak looks to continue her field hockey success as she will join head coach Caroline Gillich and the rest of the Juniata College community in the fall of 2010.

Slimak, a forward and a midfielder, will be playing along side high school teammate Emma Dahmus, as well as the rest of the 2010 recruiting class that will help represent the three-time defending Landmark Conference postseason champions.

"We are very excited to have Liz join our team and our family," Gillich said. "Liz is a solid player that has proven she can hold her own against the best competition at the high school level. She has great drive and focus and is a supportive teammate. I know she will help us achieve our goals as a team."

Slimak helped lead her team to the PIAA AAA State Championship in 2006 and again this past season as a senior. She also won the gold medal at the Keystone State Indoor Field Hockey Games in 2008 and 2010. She was also selected to the Capital team for the Keystone State Games for the 2009 outdoor team.

"Liz practices and plays with intensity and consistency," Lower Dauphin head coach Linda Kreiser said. "She is an outstanding teammate and good citizen. Her work ethic and love of competition were essential to our LD teams."

Field hockey was not her only sport while at Lower Dauphin. Slimak was also a part of the school's ice hockey program as well as the girls' lacrosse team and she ran track.

In the classroom she is an honor role student who has participated in the gifted program while in high school. She achieved the National Latin exam silver medal passing it cum laude.

Gillich continued, "I am excited to see the player she grows into at Juniata. So many players come here and really explode and become better than they ever thought they could be. I think this will be Liz's story as well."
