NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Juniata College continued with day two of its spring break trip to North Myrtle Beach, S.C., with a 13-6 loss to LaRoche College, Tuesday at Central Park Field.

The Eagles put up two runs in the second, the one crossing on an Allison Gerlach (Mesa, Ariz./Marcos de Niza) double to left, and added four more in the sixth inning. Kelsey Shutt (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) drove in two of the runs on her flared single to shortstop.

LaRoche scored five runs in the fourth inning, with four more in the sixth and three in the seventh.

Amanda Gerlach (Mesa, Ariz./Marcos de Niza) and Allison Gerlach each had a pair of hits, as did senior Melissa Moffat (Oceanside, Calif./Oceanside). Seven other players had singles to aid the Eagles offensively. Freshman Mason Kersey (Charles Town, W.Va./St. John's Catholic) fanned four LaRoche batters while allowing six runs on 10 hits in the loss.

In game two, Illinois College scored single runs in the second and third innings and held on for a 2-1 win over Juniata.

The Eagles scored their lone run in the fifth inning when Caley McCool (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) reached on single to center field, and later scored on a ground out to third that was thrown away by the Illinois College third baseman.

Shutt went 2-for-4 at the plate while McCool was 2-for-2. Starter Kelsea Decker (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) struck out nine while scattering three hits and allowing two runs, only one earned, in the loss.

Juniata will face Gwynedd Mercy College and Chatham University in a pair of game on Wednesday, March 9, in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
