WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Juniata College track and field enjoyed considerable success in the field events and the middle distance events on the track at Friday and Saturday's Wake Forest Open, held at Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Freshman Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) had the highest Juniata women's track finish of the weekend, placing 12th in the 3000m run (10:42.97).

Alyssa Grube (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was 43rd in the 800m (2:25.06), leading a contingent of three Eagles in the event. Woods was 54th (2:27.25) while Megan McQuillan (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) was 72nd (2:32.75). Grube was also 50th in the 1500m run (5:06.92), while Casey Hoffman (Coplay, Pa./Parkland) was 61st (5:18.28) with Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township) was 62nd (5:18.36).

Morgan was the high Juniata finisher in the 5000m run in 29th place (20:06.49), with Hoffman not far behind in 34th place (20:34.26).

In the field events, Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) had the top overall high Juniata finish of the meet, with her ninth place finish in the high jump (5-2 1/4). Shaffer also finished 25th in the triple jump (34-2 3/4), and was 38th in the 100m hurdles (16.13 seconds).

Erika Brown (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) was ninth in the high jump "B" pit, with a mark of 4-11.

Kristyn Ginter (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) was 26th in the javelin with a throw of 105-6.

On the men's side, Aaron McCoy (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) was 44th in the 100m dash (11.36 seconds), while Nick Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) was 52nd (11.47).

Also on the track, Steve Schmitt (New Providence, Pa./Solanco) was 47th in the 1500m run (4:14.60), while Jon Pfadenhauer (Old Westbury, N.Y./The Wheatly School) was 56th (4:17.32). Five other Juniata runners competed in the 1500m, led by Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) in 68th place (4:21.09).

Nate Alter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) had the top men's finish on the track, with his 19th place finish in the 5000m run (16:19.68). Pfadenhauer was close behind in 22nd place (16:23.81), with Schmitt in 29th place (16:44.37).

Vinny Smith (Butler, Pa./Mars) was 42nd in the 110 hurdles (16.67 seconds), and placed 44th in the 400m hurdles (1:03.78).

Bauer turned in the top overall finish for a Juniata male, placing 15th in the triple jump (42-10 1/4). Dustin Drake (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) was 19th in the javelin with a throw of 176-1, and was 33rd in the hammer (117-10). Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) was just ahead of Drake in the hammer in 32nd place (118-4).

Juniata track and field will compete at Susquehanna University's Jim Taylor Invitational next Saturday, Mar. 26, in Selinsgrove, Pa.
