Juniata Women's Volleyball Athlete Named 'Player of Week'

Huntingdon, PA - Juniata outside hitter Katie Charles (Manheim Township/Lancaster) was named the commonwealth conference "player of the week" for women's volleyball. Charles' efforts helped the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 week.
Charles' week began on the West Coast, were she had 12 kills in four games, as Juniata wrapped up a trip to California by beating Redlands. Charles added 8 kills two days later against conference opponent Susquehanna. Charles finished the week strong against conference opponent Lebanon Valley and non-conference Wellesley College. In those two games, Charles had 30 kills and added three blocks. Charles has stepped into the starting lineup in place of injured All-American Danielle Hart.
Charles finished the week with 50 kills in 15 games played. She had a hitting percentage of.422 and added eight blocks.
This season Charles has .308 hitting percentage with 84 kills. She is averaging 2.62 kills and .66 blocks per game. She also has contributed 21 blocks for the Eagles throughout the year.
Through Oct. 22, the women's volleyball team had an overall record of 22-2 and were 6-0 in the conference. The Eagles were ranked third in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll.
