GRANTHAM, Pa. -- Juniata College sophomore Angie Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) set a new Juniata record while winning the heptathlon at the Messiah College Invitiational track and field meet, which concluded Friday afternoon at Shoemaker Field.

Shaffer earned 3,510 points in the heptathlon, breaking the old record of 3,427 points set by Kira Troutman in 2002. This was Shaffer's first collegiate heptathlon competition.

Friday's events in the heptathlon were the long jump, the javelin, and the 800m run. The 100m hurdles, the high jump, the shot put, and the 200m run were all held on Thursday afternoon.

The rest of the Juniata men's and women's track and field teams will be traveling to Grantham on Saturday to compete in the remainder of the Messiah Invitational.
