HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- John Martinez (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) homered twice and had a hot weekend at the plate against the United States Merchant Marine Academy, putting the Eagles back in the postseason chase and earning Landmark Player of the Week for the week ending April 17.

The Eagles took the first two of three games against the Mariners. The senior had six hits and six runs scored in the series, while driving in five runs.

Martinez had two homers in the 5-3 second game win, four extra-base hits for the week, while walking four times and scoring eight runs. He slugged 1.385 over the four-game week for the Eagles with eight runs scored and eight hits.

Martinez ranks second on the Landmark Conference charts with a .375 batting average. He is also second for his slugging percentage at .588, first in the league for his on base percentage at .544, and first for walks with 26.

This season he has scored 26 runs, three homers, and a total of 18 RBI.

The Eagles also traveled to Penn State Altoona on Thursday, falling 11-10 in game won, while game two was cancelled due to weather when Juniata was leading 7-4. Martinez went 2-for-4 to lead Juniata at the plate, scoring two runs and three RBI.

Juniata will host Penn State Altoona on Thursday, Apr. 21 for a non-conference twin bill at 1:00.
