Juniata track and field finds success during unexpected trip to Widener Invitational

Complete Widener Invitational results
CHESTER, Pa. -- Juniata College track and field made a previously unscheduled appearance at the Widener University Invitational on Thursday and Friday, and had some considerable success against a field that had a healthy mix of Division I and II squads in addition to Division III schools.
The Eagles were forced to compete at the Widener Invitational, which became Juniata's final tune-up for next weekend's Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, after their originally scheduled meet at Saint Francis University was canceled.
Kristyn Ginter (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) had the highest finish of the meet for the Juniata women, finishing second in the javelin with a throw of 112-10. Ginter also finished fifth (108-9) in the hammer, right behind fourth place Kaitlyn Shultz (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) with a throw of 115-8.
Alyssa Grube (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was not far of Ginter's pace among Juniata finishers, placing third (2:19.90) in the 800m run. Megan McQuillan (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) also had a top ten finish in the 800m, finishing 10th (2:22.18).
Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) and Erika Brown (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) also posted top ten finishes, with Shaffer placing fourth in the 100m hurdles (15.67), while Brown was eighth in the 400m hurdles (1:10.59). Shaffer followed up with a 10th place finish in the high jump (5-0 ½), and she was 12th in the long jump (15-0 ½).
Lauren Taylor (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) was eighth in the pole vault, after clearing the bar at 10-0. Evan Beatty (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) turned in a fifth place finish in the discus (102-3) and was 14th in the shot put (29-7 ¼).
On the men's side, many of Juniata's top finishes came in the field events.
Jeremy Hays (McMechen, W.Va./John Marshall) was fifth (5-10) in the high jump and ninth (19-11 ½) in the long jump competition. Nick Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) outperformed Hays in the long jump, finishing fourth with a lead of 21-2 ¾.
Jack Iosue (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) was Juniata's top male finisher with his second place (183-6) result in the javelin, with Dustin Drake (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) not far behind in fourth place (174-2).
Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) posted top ten finishes in three different events. He was fifth (132-10) in the discus, eighth (12-11 ½) in the pole vault, and ninth (138-3) in the hammer throw.
Juniata will host the 2011 Landmark outdoor championship meet next Saturday, April 30, and Sunday, May 1, at Oller Track at Knox Stadium. Saturday competition begins at 9:30 a.m., with Sunday's event starting at 9:00 a.m.
