HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College's Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) had strong performances in the discus and the hammer at the Widener Invitational last week in Chester, Pa., setting new personal bests and placing at the top of the conference, to earn Landmark Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors.

The sophomore set new personal bests in the discus with a throw of 40.49-meters, beating his personal record by 5 ½ feet. He threw 42.15 meters in the hammer, beating his personal record by 12 ½ feet. The discus mark earned him a third-place finish and is the second-best mark in the league this year.

Clapper placed ninth in the hammer and added an eighth-place finish in the pole vault by clearing 3.95 meters.

The Widener Invitational was the last tune-up before Juniata will host the 2011 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship this Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 30 & May 1 at Oller Track at Knox Stadium in Huntingdon.
