Women's volleyball upends No. 12 Colorado College at Molten CC Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Junior middle Ashley Schnader (Reinholds, Pa./Garden Spot) erupted for a career-high 15 kills on her way to All-Tournament Team honors as Juniata College upended host and 12th-ranked Colorado College, 3-1, on Saturday at Reid Gymnasium in the Tigers' own 2011 Molten Colorado College Invitational.
Set scores for ninth-ranked Juniata were 16-25, 25-20, 25-17, and 25-19. Juniata improved to 6-4 overall with the win, and earned its first win of the season against a nationally-ranked opponent.
Schnader hammered her 15 kills on 33 swings against just four errors, posting a .333 hitting percentage. She also served up one ace and had three digs, and recorded five total blocks to finish with a match-high 20.0 points.
Sophomore outside hitter Amy Miller (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) finished with nine kills on 30 swings, while sophomore Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) and freshman Amelia Kepler (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) each had eight terminations.
Kepler also logged four block assists and finished with 10.0 points, while middle Courtney Lydick (McKean, Pa./General McLane) also tallied 10.0 points on seven kills, one block solo, and four block assists.
Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) guided Juniata to a .159 hitting percentage and recorded 42 assists in the process. Three players had double-figure dig totals, paced on senior libero Libby Morrison's 23 digs.
Morrison tallied 72 digs, averaging 7.20 per set, over the tournament's three matches, and also was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Colorado College (9-2) was led by Kristen Liberty with 10 kills, with three different players each charting seven kills. The Tigers hit .134 for the match, most of that in the first set when CC notched a .333 hitting percentage. Colorado College failed to hit above .100 in any of the match's final three sets.
Juniata heads to Elizabethtown, Pa., this coming weekend to compete in the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Classic on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 23-24.
