HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Students from the instrumental music department at Juniata College presented an annual Honors recital at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5 in Rosenberger Auditorium in Oller Hall on the Juniata campus.

The concert included solo performances and small ensemble groups of string instruments, percussion instruments and woodwinds.

Student performers and soloists included:

Carol Longenecker, a junior from Harrisonburg, Va., performed the flute solo on "Sonata in E flat Major" by J.S. Bach.

Erica Rhodes, a senior from Huntingdon, performed the flute solo on "Meditiation from Thais" by Jules Massenet.

Julie Johnston, a senior from Hershey, Pa., performed the flute solo from "Sicilienne de Pelleas et Melisande" by Gabriel Faure.

Holly Lechien, a senior from Lewistown, Pa., performed the alto flute solos from "Lullaby for Alexandra " and from "Duet in G."

Adam Baker, a senior from Silver Spring, Md. performed Franz Shubert's "Impromptu, op. 90, No. 2" on piano.

John DeHart, a freshman from State College, performed Frederic Chopin's "Nocturne, op. 9, No. 2" on piano.

Juniata students playing in the Percussion Ensemble are: Doug Schunk, a junior from Altoona, Pa.; Amanda Rushnock, a junior from Phillipsburg, Pa.; John Shirley, a sophomore from Albuquerque, N.M.; Valerie Brand, a sophomore from Montrose, Pa.; Kevin Kasun, a freshman from Altoona; and Dawn Vitko, a junior from Johnstown, Pa.

Juniata students playing in the Juniata College Sinfonia are: violins: Heidi Blasenak, a sophomore from Harrisburg, Pa.; Athena Gibble, a freshman from York, Pa.; Abby Hinkle, a junior from Leola, Pa; Christina Sermania, a senior from Chester Springs, Pa.; Hannah Taylor, a freshman from Norristown, Pa.; Susan Trainor, a freshman from Piscataway, N.J.; and Leah Hammond, a freshman from South Deerfield, Mass. Cellos: Madalyn Phillips, a junior from Lebanon, Pa.; and Sarah Bay, a freshman from Harrisburg.

Juniata students playing in the Woodwind Quintet are: Breanna Daum, a sophomore from Orwigsburg, Pa, flute; Nicole Beaver, a junior from Lewistown, horn; Pam Detwiler, a junior from Tyrone, Pa., clarinet; Esther Pfau, a sophomore from Bel-Air, Md., oboe; and Leslie Vogt, a junior from Venice, Fla., bassoon.
