HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College is bringing back graduates from across the decades for its annual "Alumni Weekend," but the event also hopes to attract some visiting current and former Boy Scouts to see a historical display of scouting memorabilia from noon to 4 p.m., Thursday, June 5 and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday, June 6 and 7.

The exhibit, which can be seen in the Information Commons in Beeghly Library, features such artifacts as the walking stick owned by Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, a 1908 "Boy Scout Handbook," first editions of books written by Baden-Powell, and the most complete collection of Eagle Scout Awards and memorabilia

The exhibit features such artifacts as the walking stick owned by Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, a 1908 "Boy Scout Handbook," first editions of books written by Baden-Powell, and the most complete collection of Eagle Scout Awards and memorabilia.

The display is part of an "Alumni College" presentation by two Juniata alumni, Terry Grove and Dr. Hal Yocum, who are teaching the class "The Beginnings of Boy Scouts and the History of the Eagle Scout Award" at 1:15 p.m., Saturday, June 7 in Neff Lecture Hall in the von Liebig Center for Science. The two presenters will take attendees through the history of their combined collections and the complete exhibit will be available to see through out Alumni Weekend.

Grove is a minister at the Altamonte Chapel for the United Church of Christ in Altamonte, Fla. He is a 1964 graduate of Juniata and earned a master's degree and doctoral degree from Bethany Theological Seminary. He was named a Distinguished Eagle Scout.

Dr. Yocum, also a 1964 Juniata graduate, is a hand surgeon retired from the Oklahoma Hand Surgery Center. He also retired from the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a colonel. He also is a Distinguished Eagle Scout.

The historical presentation class will outline the beginning of the Boy Scout program in England with Lord Baden-Powell (as portrayed by Dr. Yocum) as an educational guide. Grove and Yocum also will collaborate to take the class through the history of the Eagle Scout program and explain the various awards and memorabilia from both collections.

Yocum has focused much of his collection on the life of Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts. Visitors will see such artifacts as items from Baden-Powell's military career historical photos, a Merit Badge Sash from the 1924 World Jamboree (which marks the first time a merit badge sash was used), Lord Baden-Powell's personal walking stick, and original editions of the first Boy Scout Handbook from 1908.
