Internationally-Acclaimed A Cappella Quartet Nobuntu to Perform at Juniata College
(Posted October 11, 2024)
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Nobuntu, an internationally-acclaimed Zimbabwean female a cappella quartet, will take the stage in Rosenberger Auditorium at the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Juniata College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 18.
Named for an African concept that values humbleness, love, unity, and family from a woman’s perspective, Nobuntu’s concerts are performed with pure voices, augmented by minimalistic percussion, traditional instruments such as the Mbira (thumb piano), and organic, authentic dance movements. Inventive performances range from traditional Zimbabwean songs to Afro Jazz to gospel. The ensemble represents a new generation of young African women singers who celebrate and preserve their culture, beauty, and heritage through art.
“Juniata is committed to bringing campus and local communities together through the shared experience of world-class performances. Whether it’s a kind of music you already love or an art form you’ve never seen, the arts enhance our lives by strengthening existing connections and creating new ones,” said Kathryn Blake, director of the Juniata College Museum of Art and Juniata Presents coordinator. “We have so enjoyed seeing audiences excited and surprised and moved by the varied performances we’ve brought to Huntingdon.”
