Multicultural Dance Trio to Perform at Juniata College
(Posted October 29, 2024)
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Soles of Duende, a multicultural, all-female dance trio based in the rhythms of tap, Flamenco, and Kathak dance, will take the stage in Rosenberger Auditorium at the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Juniata College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8.
In a recent New York Times review, Soles of Duende was lauded for their deft use of diverse dance styles for a singular purpose, “They appear to draw energy up from deep in the earth. Though their dance forms–just as rigorously forms of music–come from different cultural lineages, they share this regard for the ground, and for the feet as a conduit to something greater than themselves.”
Soles of Duende members – Amanda Castro, Arielle Rosales, and Brinda Guha – describe themselves as “a Brooklyn-born Puerto-Rican from New Haven, Connecticut, a Mexican Puerto-Rican Jew from the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and a Bengali Indian from New Jersey.” Bonded by their deep love of music, their crafts, and true connection, the trio is on a lifelong mission to elevate the joy and music of true collaboration across disciplines and the celebration of the forms they practice. Featured on the cover of Dance Magazine in February 2024, the trio’s shared chemistry and camaraderie allows them to employ their respective dance styles to tell stories through rhythm and movement.
