Juniata College Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Orchestra to Host Free Concerts

HUNTINGDON, Pa.– Juniata College student musicians, under the direction of James Latten, professor of music, and Julie Renne, orchestra director, will showcase their talents in three upcoming free concerts on campus.
Monday, November 18
The Juniata College Symphonic Band will perform at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 18. The concert will take place in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.
Juniata College Symphonic Band members include students Ben Allen ’25, Elizabeth Bertolet ’28, Caden Beyer ’28, Allyssa Chaney ’28, Rebecca Christophel ’25, Elisabeth Cox ’25, Jay Cyzyk ’28, Ethan Dennis ’27, Braiden Dolan ’27, Bryce Garland ’27, Maizy Hoover ’27, Hailey Houser ’28, Gabby Iezzi ’27, Bri Johnson ’27, Leo Kirsch ’28, Erin Leland ’27, Aaliyah McGee ’28, Nina Meadows, ’28, Myles Miller ’27, Jayden Murray ’25, Jackson Sharpe ’27, Molly Silvis, ’28, Grace Strayer ’26, Rebecca VanSteenacker ’25, Ursa Vanzetten ’28, Rae Waight ’28, and Dom Watt ’28, and community members, Penni Abram, Carol Barber, Janet Berlin, Mike Bliss, Cindy Brockett, Jenny Koberna, John Kovalchik, Cheryl Latten, Lyle Long, Rich Manning, and Gary Nastase.
The Symphonic Band will perform SymphonicDance No. 3 by Clifton Williams, “Country Wildflowers” by Larry Daehn, “Bugler’s Holiday” by Leroy Anderson (featuring trumpeters Allen, VanSteenacker, and Cox), “Arlington” (Where Giants Lie Sleeping) by Paul Murtha, and the “Huntingdon Municipal Band March” by Peter Buys, who was a Juniata faculty member from 1915-1919. The brass ensemble will perform “Fanfare on La Peri” by Paul Dukas, and the percussion ensemble will perform “Tinman” by Kevin Kifer. Special guest ensemble Raystown Woods, a regional woodwind choir led by Ronica Skarphol Brownson, will conclude the concert and join the Juniata woodwinds for a performance of “Ritual Fire Dance” by Manuel DeFalla.
Wednesday, November 20
The Juniata College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Jordan Canner, will perform at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20. The concert will take place in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.

The Jazz Ensemble will perform “Things Ain’t What They Used to Be,” by Mercer Ellington and Ted Persons, arranged by Dave Lalama; “Mambo Over The Mountain,” by Rick Hirsch; “Jada,” arranged by Oliver Nelson; “Brass Machine,” by Mark Taylor;
“Willow Weep For Me,” by Ann Ronnell, arranged by Kris Berg (featuring Theo McWilliams’ 27); “Satin Doll,” by Billy Strayhorn, Duke Ellington, and Johnny Mercer, arranged by Sammy Nestico; and “Arnge Drank (Orange Juice With An Attitude!),” by Paul Baker.
Sunday, November 24
The Juniata College Orchestra, under the direction of Julie Renne, will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.
Juniata College Orchestra members include students Elizabeth Bertolet ’28, Ava Cook ’27, Lily Corral-Galvan ’28, Elisabeth Cox ’25, Braiden Dolan ’27, Hutson Hendrix ’28, Wyatt Jensen ’27, Erin Leland ’27, Aidan McGovern ’25, Em Perago ’26, Kyleigh Pearsall ’28, Anisa Ray ’27, Abi Scheinberg ’27, Rebecca VanSteenacker ’25, and Katie Wagoner ’28, and community members, Janet Berlin, Everett Cahill, Aaron Decker, Melanie Fisher, Leigh Hurtz, John Kovalchik, Cheryl Latten, James Latten, Katherine Nugent, Emma Pyle-Lewis, Evelyn Renne, and Freya Spigelmeyer.
The program will feature an engaging repertoire including the finale of Symphony No. 15 in G Major, K.124 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, arranged by Sandra Dackow; “Canyon Sunset” by John Caponegro; “Fiddle-me-oo-re-i-re-a” (Working on the Railway), an Irish Folk Song arranged by Virginia Croft; “A Holst Christmas,” arranged by Douglas E. Wagner; “Habanera” (from Bizet’s opera, Carmen), arranged by Richard Meyer; and the jazz standard “Take Five” by Paul Desmond, arranged by Bob Cerulli.
