HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College President James A. Troha was named vice chair of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Board of Governors Thursday at the NCAA Convention held in Washington, D.C.

A dedicated advocate for student-athletes, Troha’s leadership will support the board in overseeing strategic issues and guiding governance.

“I am honored to serve the NCAA in this leadership role. The issues facing college athletics are real and profound, and I will do whatever I can to help the NCAA thrive in a really challenging environment,” said Troha. “Our student-athletes, particularly, deserve our collective time and attention toward sustaining such a powerful co-curricular campus experience.”

Troha was named to the NCAA Board of Governors in November 2024 to serve a two-year term from 2025-2027. He recently completed a two-year term as chair of the NCAA Division III President’s Council and is currently serving on the NCAA’s Strategic Risk Advisory and Compensation committees.

"The Landmark Conference has been incredibly lucky to have President Troha as one of our leaders for over a decade. I’ve had the chance to watch him lead at the national level with thoughtfulness, steadiness, and a genuine care for people, especially our student-athletes, during his leadership as Chair of the Division III Presidents Council," said Katie Boldvich, Landmark Conference Commissioner. "His leadership has benefited the entire division, and I’m excited for the broader NCAA membership to now benefit from that same perspective as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors.”

The NCAA Board of Governors is the highest governing body in the NCAA. Bringing together presidents and chancellors from each division, former student-athletes, along with select leaders from inside and outside the NCAA membership, the board is responsible for leading the NCAA and presiding over issues that affect the entire NCAA membership.
