Juniata College to Present Spring Concert Featuring Ensembles and Orchestra

HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Juniata College will host a spring concert featuring performances by the String Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Percussion Ensembles at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 20, in Rosenberger Auditorium, Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.
Conducted by James Latten, professor of music, this event is free and open to the public.
The String Ensemble will perform the “Holberg Suite, Op. 40” by Edvard Grieg, “Dat Groove” by Joshua Reznicow, and “Back in Black” by AC/DC, arranged by Larry Moore.
Juniata’s Symphonic Band will play the Anthem from Ernest Bloch’s “America,” arranged by R.F. Goldman; “Shenandoah” by Frank Ticheli; and “Monument Square” by Phil Loewen.
The Percussion Ensemble’s snare line will perform “Seven and Six” by Edward Freytag and the melodic bass drums will play “Let’s Hit It” by James Latten. Also, the college’s World Percussion Lab will perform a short Brazilian Batteria.
The full Juniata College Orchestra will take the stage to play “To Juniata (Juniata College’s Alma Mater)” by F.B. Ward and C.L. Rowland, arranged by James Latten; and “St. Augustine” by C. Michael Shively.

They will be joined by community and faculty musicians, including Penni Abram, Carol Barber, Jonathan Basom, Janet Berlin, Mike Bliss, Cindy Brockett, Kailbeth Chacin, Aaron Dayao, Pam Detwiler, Larry Detwiler, John Ebersole, Robert Hatala, Jenny Koberna, John Kovalchik, Cheryl Latten, Lyle Long, Rich Manning, Gary Nastase, and Yiming Zhou.
The concert also highlights the breadth of Juniata’s music opportunities, including Concert Ensemble Scholarships available through senior-year high school auditions.
