HUNTINGDON, Pa. — The Juniata College Clays Team earned a spot in the 2027 ACUI National Championship following a strong performance at the 2026 ACUI Upper East Coast Conference Championships, held at the Prince George’s Trap and Skeet Center in Glen Dale, Md.

“This was a great experience for the team,” said Coach Jack Makdad ’85. “They learned they can compete with the best in the nation, and that hard work pays off.”

Competing against 11 other colleges and universities and a field of 112 athletes, Juniata was represented by team captain Trevor Burkett ’27 of South Fork, Pa., Mason Roan ’29 of Cogan Station, Pa., Wils Evans ’29 of Marion, Il., and Braydon Hetrick ’29 of Altoona, Pa.

Burkett led the field in the trap shooting competition, breaking 98 of 100 targets to take first place. The next closest competitor broke 96 targets.

The team’s performance secured its qualification for the ACUI National Championship, scheduled for March 2027 in San Antonio, Texas.

Juniata’s final two competitions of 2026 will take place at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and West Point. The team will continue preparing for the national championship throughout the winter with practice at Shenecoy Sportsman’s facility, its home training location.

The ACUI National Championship brings together collegiate clay target shooting teams from across the country. Juniata’s qualification marks an important achievement for the program and its student-athletes.
