MEN?S BASKETBALL(10-8, 4-4 Commonwealth):Feb. 2 vs. LaRoche; Feb. 4 vs. Messiah*; Feb. 7 vs. Moravian*.

Juniata claimed a pair of road conference victories as they topped Lebanon Valley and Widener. Against Widener, Travis Boyd (Juniata Valley/Barree) hit a pair of game-winning free throws with 25 seconds on the clock to earn the win. Boyd finished with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds in the game. Craig Biller (Penn Cambria/Loretto) led Juniata with 15 points while missing just one shot from the field. Chris Jasiota (Oil City/Oil City) scored 14 points and added three blocked shots. Jeff Lau (York Catholic/Glen Rock) was also in double figures with 10 points and a team-high four assists. In their win over Lebanon Valley, Juniata held the Dutchmen to 45 points, the fewest points Juniata has allowed since they held Penn State-Altoona to 42 in a win on November 28, 2001. Lau scored 11 points and blocked four shots to lead Juniata. Jasiota also scored 11 for the Eagles, while grabbing a team-best eight rebounds. Aaron Chamberlain (Tussey Mountain/Saxton) scored nine points, while he and Greg Ebert (Forbes Road/Waterfall) each had three steals. Biller was tops on the team with four assists.

WOMEN?S BASKETBALL (4-14, 1-7 Commonwealth): Feb 3 vs. Messiah*; Feb. 7 vs. Moravian*.

The Eagles lost a pair of tight contests as they dropped conference outings at Lebanon Valley and Widener Kristen Kirk (Newport/Newport) led Juniata against Lebanon Valley with 17 points while pulling in four rebounds. Jen Uhrich (Palmyra/Palmyra) was also in double figures with 13 points. Juniata got solid efforts from Katie O?Brien (Southwestern/Hanover) and Janine Smeltz (Line Mountain/Herndon) coming off the bench. Each player scored 12 points, O?Brien led the team with eight rebounds and three assists while Smeltz recorded seven boards and two assists. Kirk was the high scorer against Widener as well as she netted 19 points and led the team with four assists. Dana Reist (Manheim Central/Manheim) was in double figures with 10 points. Uhrich grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles, falling just one point shy of a ?double-double.?

MEN?S VOLLEYBALL (2-2, 0-1 EIVA Tait): Feb. 2 at Penn State*; Feb. 6 at Springfield*; Feb 7 at Sacred Heart.

Juniata claimed a 3-0 win over Division III foe NYU, taking the match by game scores of 30-27, 30-27, 30-23, then lost a heart-breaking 3-2 decision against EIVA Tait foe Rutgers-Newark by game scores of 28-30, 21-30, 30-28, 30-28, 14-16. Brian Dinning (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) led the Juniata attack with 13 kills and a .526 hitting percentage. Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) was also in double figures with 10 kills. Cordt Withum (Penn Manor/Holtwood) was a force for the Juniata defense with a career-high nine blocks in the match. Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) finished with 40 assists and five blocks of his own. Tim Cole (Pennsbury/Yardley) led the Eagles with 10 digs. Against Rutgers-Newark, Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) led the offensive attack with 18 kills, while adding a match-high 13 digs defensively. Dinning finished with 15 kills for the Eagles giving him back-to-back matches with 10 or more kills. Glenn DeHaven (Walt Whitman/South Huntington) and Eiser added 14 and 12 kills respectively to the Eagle attack. Ziegler finished the match with 57 assists and recorded seven blocks to lead the team. Cole once again had 10 digs defensively for Juniata.

WOMEN?S SWIMMING (9-3, 5-3 MAC): Feb. 13-15 at MAC Championships.

Juniata swam to a trio of convincing victories this week as they topped King?s College in their final home dual meet of the season, and defeated both Bryn Mawr and FDU in a tri-meet. In the tri-meet at Bryn Mawr, Juniata topped the host school 123-81 and rolled past FDU 162-36. Juniata had four top individuals in the meet and a host of runner-up finishes. The Eagles also placed first in both relays. Kim Allen (Susquehanna Twp./Harrisburg) claimed wins in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. Freshman Allison Engle (Shippensburg Area/Shippensburg) was first in the 1,000-yard freestyle and placed second in the 500 free. Kathy Trainor (Upper Merion/King of Prussia) was the top finisher in the 100-yard freestyle. Two Juniata swimmers earned a pair of second-place finishes as Amy Sutherland (Norwich/Norwich, N.Y.) was second in the 100 backstroke and 200 IM, while Andrea Nulton (Tyron Area/Tyrone) placed second in the 100 and 200 freestyles. Also finishing second were Rachel Almy (Foxcroft Academy/Charleston, Me.) in the 1,000 freestyle, Amy Hanson (Lancaster Catholic/Elizabethtown) in the 50 freestyle, and Lauren Chiapetta (St. Charles, St. Charles, Il.) in the 100-yard backstroke. Sutherland, Allen, Trainor and Hanson also combined for the win in the 200-yard medley relay, while Juniata?s team in the 200-yard freestyle relay claimed a victory by more the 10 seconds. Then against King?s College Juniata closed the regular season with a dominating 170-18 victory. Juniata had the top three finishers in each individual event, claiming 16 points in each in each individual event. Three Eagle swimmers captured a pair of first-place finishes. Nulton finished first in the 800 and 400-meter freestyle. Also earning a pair of wins was Trainor who touched the wall first in the 200-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly. Hanson rounded out the dual wins by finishing first in the 50 and 100-meter freestyles. Earning one first-place finish was senior Allen who finished first in the 100-meter breaststroke. Chiapetta was the top finisher in the 200-meter individual medley, and Sutherland finished first in the 100-meter backstroke. Kim Dierolf (Boyertown Area/Barto) then joined Hanson, Allen, and Sutherland in winning the 400-meter medley relay. Trainor and Chiapetta teamed up with Holly Gabries (Tunkhannock Area/Meshoppen) and Almy to claim first place in the 400-meter freestyle relay. The meet was the final home meet for Juniata seniors Melanie Cegelski (Moon/Moon Township) and Kelsey Draper (El Cerrito, Richmond, Ca.) along with Allen. Cegelski earned a runner-up finish in the 400-meter IM, while Draper placed third in the 800-meter freestyle and the 400-meter freestyle.
