Huntingdon, Pa. ? Sophomore Travis Boyd (Juniata Valley/Barree) a member of the Juniata College men?s basketball team, and Kathy Trainor (Upper Merion/King of Prussia) a member of the women?s swimming program have been named the Juniata College ?athletes of the month? for February.

Boyd was an integral part of the Juniata men?s basketball squad for the month of February. In the seven games he competed in, he topped 20 points in three of those outings. He was second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.6 points per game and posted a field goal percentage of .492 for the month. He also was a key contributor in the final game of the season where he posted 23 points as Juniata defeated conference opponent Lebanon Valley.

Boyd finished the season third on the team in scoring average, as he scored 9.9 points per game. He grabbed 87 rebounds this season an average of 4.8 per game which led the team. Boyd played in 18 games this season and scored in double digits in eight of those outings. He finished out the season leading the team in three-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage, shooting 40 percent from long range and better than 86 percent from the foul line.

Juniata finished the season with a record of 13-12, marking the first time since the 1987-88 and the 1988-89 seasons that they have had two winning seasons in a row.

Trainor had a standout performance in the swimming pool for the Eagles at the MAC Championships. She earned two gold medals and broke two school and conference records. On the first day of competition, she had the only win for the Eagles as she touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle. She broke the MAC and the school records in the finals. Trainor swam the 50 yards in 24.80 beating the previous record MAC record of 24.90. On the final day of competition, Trainor captured her second gold medal by winning the 100-yard freestyle and again broke the MAC and school records. She covered the 100 yards in 53.56, beating the conference record by .01 second, but shattering the Juniata record by more then a second and a half. Trainor was also a member of four relay teams at the Championship meet. She helped the teams to a second, two thirds and a fifth-place finish in the four relays. She participated in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay, both of which broke school records.

On the year, Trainor posted nine first-place finishes during the dual-meet season. She captured three wins in the 100 freestyle, three in the 50 freestyle and added one each in the 200 individual medley, the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. She also qualified to swim the 50 and 100 at the ECAC Championships for the Eagles. On the first day of competition, she participated in the 200-yard freestyle relay where her team ended up placing tenth. She also swam in the preliminaries for the 50-yard freestyle and missed swimming in the finals by .01 second. Trainor came back for the second day of competition to compete on the 200-yard medley relay team, which placed 11th but broke the school record. On the final day of competition, she finished seventh in the 100-yard freestyle just shy of breaking a school record.

With Trainor as a major contributor, Juniata enjoyed arguably the finest season in the history of the swimming program. The Eagles posted a 9-3 record in dual meets, including a 5-3 mark against conference opponents. Juniata also recorded its best-ever finish at the MAC Championships as the team placed third out of the 11 team field.
